What to ASK

Considering PARTICIPATING? Ask Questions

There are no right or wrong answers— just information worth having!
It can tell you more about what to expect and if a study is a good fit you.
  • What is the main purpose of this study? What do you hope to learn?
  • Please explain what a "placebo" is and whether this study involve one, or whether it involves a treatment that is already on the market.
  • What treatment will I receive during this study?
  • How long is the study going to last and what will I be asked to do as a participant?
  • Will I get follow-up information about the study results and what has been learned about the study treatment? And will the study results be published? If so, where?
print as PDF
  • Do I have to pay for any part of the study? (The answer should be 'NO.') Will my insurance cover these costs? (The answer should always be 'YES' if there are any costs).
  • What reimbursement for travel or childcare to you provide?
  • Will I be able to see my own doctor (during or after participation?
  • If the treatment works for me, will I be able to keep using it after the study?
  • How much will I be compensated for participating, how much am I entitled to, and will I have to wait until I complete the study before receiving my compensation?
  • Can anyone find out that I’m participating in this study?
  • Will I receive any follow-up care from you after the study has ended?
  • What will happen to my medical care when I stop participating in the study or when the study ends?
  • Does the physician investigator have any financial or special interest (a potential conflict) in the outcome of this clinical study?
  • What are the credentials and research experience of the physician and study staff? Have they done this before? What was the outcome?
  • Who do I call if I have questions, concerns, or experience unexpected side effects?
